The Mask of Freedom

by Halley of The Healing Well

Isn't it amazing how the Media and Madison Avenue manipulate what we think about, and how we think about it. Our programmed inability to stay focused on anything for more than a short period of time is a hallmark of contemporary culture. If a topic or issue persists beyond our 60 second attention span we become annoyed with it. The Media and Madison Avenue's sole purpose is to positively re-inforce our socialized need for conspicuous consumprion of objects and ideas. In particular we have been taught to desire all things candy-coated, so subjects that are unpleasant are best left alone.

Have you noticed that virtually no one reports on the Ozone layer anymore. Has the problem just gone away? Surely the Ozone is going away in silence. THE major crisis of our time, impacting on all spheres of life on this planet, and together the Media, corporations, and governments hide their collective head in the sand. Will we continue to rely on them to keep informed about what's happening on and to our planet?

No more reporting on AIDS either, except for the "positive". Well, Danny boy can call for the end of the AIDS crisis all he wants. Without a CURE the AIDS crisis is NOT over. Without a vaccine the AIDS crisis is NOT over. While people all over this planet continue to DIE of AIDS the AIDS crisis is NOT over. Wishing it go away isn't good enough. Are we going to allow ourselves to blindly accept the current AIDS hype courtesy of Madison Avenue and the drug profiteers?

Will we remain silent in our addiction to consumerism and dutifully play out our part in this tragedy? How shall we free ourselves from corporate-culture mind control? The first step - to become aware.

Life on this planet is more than the 60 second sound bites the nightly news tells you it is. Your life is more than the products that 30 second advertisements lull you into believing. Freedom is more than a choice between coke and pepsi; and though it's true that "we are all different but we are all equal", it has nothing to do with artificial sweetener.

REALITY CHECK: 90 percent of HIV positive people on this planet do NOT have access to *Bactrim, much more protease inhibitors! Do you have the courage to call for Justice?
*Bactrim is a relatively inexpensive antibiotic that saves lives, cause it prevents PCP. It was the first major turning point in the fight against AIDS in the US. People in Africa and Asia continue to die rapidly to PCP, and Wasting due to a lack of basic food.
